STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

No one is a paragon, and I certainly have several weaknessesTwo of them are obviously evidentThe first is, of course, my ageI am now in my 70s, and I must thank God that I am still alive.

Much to my surprise, I have noticed that despite my age, my intellectual capacities still function efficiently, to the point where I have been learning the Python computer language only a few months agoAlthough I stopped after a couple of weeks, it does demonstrate that my intellectual faculties are reasonably sharp.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of my health conditionsAlthough I would like to say that I am enjoying good health, I must admit that both my eyesight and hearing are deterioratingWhile I can still see and hear, I must confess that I do suffer from these two aspectsMoreover, I find myself more prone to feeling tired after 3 to 4 hours of workThis represents a noticeable reduction

in performance compared with my go-go-go conditions 5 years agoHowever, despite these slight disabilities, I can still work.

My second weakness, perhaps, is my rather varied background in that I lack working experience in a specialised area of expertise.

Paradoxically, my weakness is a lack of experience in an area of expertise, as my time has been spent on a varied background, which has given me the opportunity to tackle a wide range of pragmatic day-to-day problemsIn my last 30 odd years in running my migration and accounting practice, I have been assisting hundreds of clients in solving their migration, accounting and taxation problems. In the process, I have learned how to:

  1. Identify the different goals of each case.

  1. Ascertain the legal requirements for achieving the goal.

  1. Analyse the situation of my clients.

  1. Map out the strategy for a solution plan; and

  1. Implement the steps to achieve a positive outcome.

Recently, I realised that I can utilise the above general approach in solving most work projectsIn addition, I believe that my writing skills in both English and Chinese, and my speaking skills in English, Putonghua, and Cantonese, coupled with an analytical mind built upon my varied background, will stand me in good stead in performing managerial functions at an adequate level for several senior positions.
